Anesthesiology

The practice of ambulatory surgery is rapidly expanding. Although many surgical procedures are done on an outpatient basis, your surgeon most often will decide to have anesthesia services for both your operation and post-operative pain management.

Anesthesia services at the SurgiCenter are provided by an anesthesia care team composed of physicians (anesthesiologists) or nurse anesthetists (CRNA's) who are dedicated to patient safety and high quality anesthesia care.

Anesthesia services consist of general anesthesia, during which your entire body is asleep (total unconsciousness); regional anesthesia, which numbs only a part of your body, and might be advantageous in providing post-op pain relief; and monitored anesthesia care during which sedative medication may be administered. The choice of anesthesia will be made by the anesthesiologist with input from your surgeon, and will always be based upon your safety, comfort, and medical condition. Anesthesia services do not include local anesthesia, which numbs a very small area and is administered by your surgeon.
